Carter Carb?
jac42779:
It is the 275 hp 327 with a 4bbl carb. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what Rochester model corresponds with the carter model that I have. Maybe I'm confused (which ain't hard) and there's not one that matches. The reason I would like to know if there is one is because in Cliffs book he refers to the carbs a lot by the Rochester model number. Hope this makes some since and thanks for helping me out.

I don't know. The 4447S is a 4MV Rochester carb. Maybe Cliff will know.

See if this site helps out.

Cliff Ruggles:
Carter built a lot of carburetors for GM as Rochester was not able to keep up with production. All of the original units will be numbered the same as Rochester carbs, but they will have a different method to date them.
I would also add here than original 1967 and many 1968 units used a round tag in lieu of stamping the castings.
If you have a 67 carburetor that is stamped, either Rochester or Carter built, it's going to be an SR carb.
Rochester units use Julian dates, Carter's used a letter/number. A 1967 Rochester carb might be dated 0017, indicating January 01, 1967, where a Carter would be A7, or January 1967.
Rochester Service Replacement carburetors still used the original numbers, at least until 1975, but they will be missing the Plant Code.
Carter SR carburetors used four numbers followed by an "S".
Most Rochester SR carbs post 1974 will use 170549XX numbers. For example, the SR carburetors for the 73-74 Pontiac Super Duty engines were numbered 17054910 or 17054911.
Hope this helps some?.....Cliff
