motorcraft 4350/Qjet adapter
« on: September 12, 2014, 01:36:31 PM »
I'm looking for an adaptor which would enable me to install a Quadrajet on a Ford 460 factory intake.  I'm pretty sure it was available at one time, but I've been looking everywhere and can't find any.  If anyone has one he wants to get rid of, or know where I can find one, please let me know.

    Frank.

frank im running a quad on a stock 460 manifold. i took and taped the crossover holes and installed allen head plugs . then i took marine tex and filled everything in flat .and used the square bore to spread bore spacer that you can buy at any parts house . been on there 2 years with no issues. wfiw

Would you have pics of that ?  I don't have the intake here at home, it's for a friend's '76 460 out of a Mercury Marquis.  I know there is already some sort of spacer (that was for EGR I think).  Do I keep that spacer on it ?  If you can't post pics here, you can always send them to my e-mail which is frankyboy455@hotmail.com.

   Thanks again, Frank.

I found this picture on the net.  I know this is a squarebore spacer but if I used a Qjet to squarebore adapter, the bottom would be the same.  I can clearly see where the problem is, in the front of the 2 primaries, just not sure I understand what you're sayin' about tapping the crossover holes.  Frank.

Ok, got the pics.  But I can see your intake is already a square bore.  Mine is for a stock 4350 Motorcraft spread bore, not at all like a Qjet spreadbore.  Still have to find a way to adapt this as there seems to be NO adapter that exists to adapt the two different spreadbore patterns.

frank i ordered on of those adapters. I'm going to see what it takes to make a quad fit. one of my buddies at work has the same manifold and wants to install a quad. I've got access to one of the best machine shops in the state. its a 1/2 mile from my house and the guys lets me use his machines. ill let you know how it turns out. thanks for your help.

got my adapter . its going to take a little( mechanic engineering) to make it work. looks like if i move the carb ahead and drill new holes in the hear of the quad baseplate the gasket will seal in the middle . them its going to take some severe effort with a carbide cutter to make room for the throttle to open the plates all the way.i might just go make me a new one out of a blank piece of aluminum.ill keep you posted its going to take a while don't have time to screw around with it right now.
