no where to attach choke pull off

<< < (2/3) > >>

Ethan1:
That carburetor, I believe, came with a mechanical choke. Looks like someone added an electric choke. There was a bracket that attached to the side of the carb, that the choke pull-off slid into and attached. I would look for some photos of an original one (eBay, Google, etc.) and see how it goes. I am pretty sure that is how it went though.

do you have cliffs book? page 39 bottom right shows what ethan is talking about . i think thats what you should have . if it was mine and i was keeping the electric choke (which i think work perfect )i would customize the air horn and install a front choke pull off.with a little southern engineering( no pun intended to anybody )you could probably do it in an hour or so.fwiw

Cliff Ruggles:
Those carbs do NOT convert easily to an electric choke, as you are finding out.

To do a complete the conversion, you will need ALL the choke parts from a 73-74 Pontiac carb, or 1970-74 Old's carb.

This includes a different choke housing, bracket, pull-off, link, and parts from the throttle shaft.

You will also have to drill two holes in the main casting to attach the bracket, and there is no "boss" for the bracket, so it doesn't sit flat on the main casting.

Not a good conversion even with all the correct parts, IMHO.......Cliff

thanks for the replies cliff & 429bbf.

this carb came as is with my car, which i am restoring.i have just put a new needle & seat & re set the float level to fix a flooding problem.

i really only need it to run in my new motor as i will be converting to straight lpg once that is done.

i have the choke set so it is starting easily,my main concern is will the secondary air valves work with out the choke pull off ? will the carb be ok to run the motor in with ?

many thanks
jason
