Is this carb even close to being worth the money?
« on: November 10, 2014, 02:55:20 PM »
I got on Cliff's waiting list today for a rebuild (I'll have to find a suitable core first) but in the interim my current carb has got to be replaced quickly with something. So I found a local guy today who has an original NOS # 7027202 that he has gone through and updated for methanol he says. BUT, he's firm at $879.00 for the thing. Is it close to worth that?

Then I found a guy online who says he'll sell me an electric choke model tailored just for my application for $349. He's pretty well respected but you know what they say about something sounding too good to be true.

My car is a '67 Impala 327/275 powerglide, and although it's pretty original I'm not necessarily looking for a numbers correct carb. I just want it to crank up and go. I was thinking about one of those 0-80555C Holley Quadrajet replacements, but Cliff and every other reputable Quadrajet man I've spoken with says they're no good. That's strange to me since every Holley I've ever used (mainly on hi-po applications) performed well, but I'll take their word for it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated; I'm getting a little desperate.

Even though the 67 carb would be a correct "fit", I'd go to a later q-jet with an electric choke, correctly set-up for what you are doing.....Cliff
