Spudraker:
found this site while researching a couple carbs I have. I am pleasantly surprised to find you lean to Pontiac! I want to go back to running a Q-jet on my firebird and dug out some old ones I had lying around. Can you tell me if ether one would be worth using. One is a Carter 4853S the other 7028282.  I have heard the opinion that Carter Q-jets are junk is that true?

P.S. what is with all the nonsense Roberthony is posting on this forum?

Welcome to CHP!

I would look for a '75-up Buick, Olds or Pontiac Qjet. Those two Qjets you have will cause you headaches to modify. Also, what is the setup of your Firebird? Cam specs, engine, trans, etc.?

As for what that person is posting, it is spam. We get them on here occasionally. They should be blocked here soon. ;)

You would think people have better things to do than pollute a forum.
I am not racing, just want a good working Quad for street. I have some others
if I can find them in storage. I liked the Carter cause it is fairly clean and
has a divorced choke that works with the manifold I want to use but that's
not necessary. Also noticed it has pretty large secondary discharge ports so
thought it may be a performance model. The Carter numbers don't tell me much
4853S   E2  am I right at dating it may 1972  And the other one  7028282 to be
a 1968 for Checker or marine? Thanks for the help and I'll see if I can the find others.

You are correct. E2 is May 1972. Carter Qjet 4853S was used on the '68-'74 Pontiacs and is a Service Replacement carb. I would stay away from this carb, as it is a Service Replacement.

Qjet 7028282 is a '68 Marine Qjet and is related to the 7028280 Qjet. Cliff would be best to answer, if this would work.

 What are your other carbs?

Sorry about the spammers...  They hit hard and fast sometimes...Like a 455 sporting a Cliffs Qjet!
And I miss them....
I'm going to do some serious upgrades in coming weeks as soon as I have a safe plan of attack.
Thanks for the understandings. If you ever see those please "report" the post. I get those notices.
James
