New Pontiac Build with Quadrajet
« on: July 03, 2015, 11:55:55 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I was hoping to get some feedback with a new Pontiac 400 build.

Rebuild Quadrajet using Cliff's complete rebuild kit + stock manifold
stock connecting rods, crank, speed pro pistons
6x-8 heads milled for 9.0:1 compression
Crower 60240 camshaft
Zero Deck
3.08 rear
4-speed

How does this look, should I change anything? I'm looking to get a nice street machine, no track, but I want it to pull hard to 4500 maybe 5000, but no more. I also want to run on pump gas, preferably 89, and be reliable (relatively).

Thanks

The biggest choke point on the Pontiac is the heads, a good head porter is worth the money while you have it apart. Cliff is the best source for Pontiac camshaft advise. Good luck

Beyond just good valve/seat work you woln't benefit much from porting with that build.  The stock 6X heads will flow 400 cid to at least 5500rpm's before they start to become restrictive.  That cam is done around 5000rpm's, but is a very good choice for what you are doing, it will make strong mid-range power, down where you need it anyhow.....Cliff

Thank you for the advice, Cliff, that's was I was hoping to hear.

As far as porting goes, I'm not going to race this car and I'm not really looking for maximum power potential so I can't really see how it would be worth it IMO.
