Quadrajet 17085226
« on: September 08, 2015, 06:50:13 AM »
Good morning Gents,   i have a couple of general questions on quadrajet 4Ms.

Vehicle:
1983 Chevy G20, 305 and stock.

I noticed that alot of qudrajets have the front pull-off.  Mine does not.  I had read where there are a rare few that do not have the front pull off.

My question is, whats the deciding factors for a front pull-off.

The last question is about the Dual Capacity Solenoid.  My carb has it, but I have never found a wire that goes to it.  Should there be?

I know the carb was originally worked on by someone else.  So I'm just trying to get it back to what it was.

Some 1979 and later truck carbs will only have a rear pull-off and two links, one to the choke and one up to the secondary flaps.

They will accept a front pull-off but it is not needed as long as the rear works fine.

The solenoid isn't needed either, but they can develop leaks in that system at the valve under it, so it's best to block it off completely if you aren't going to use it.....Cliff

Thanks for the Reply Cliff.  I'll just let those be for now then.

I was able to go back through the carb and found my real issue, I had a hole in the float.

Now I have the carb running well except for one issue.  From what I understand is when I press the gas pedal to the floor, the choke should close (which mine does) and then the high idle step cam should catch on the high cam step.  This part of the function "does not" occur.  I can manual pull up the high idle and it will stay.  I have the high idle set to 1600 rpms via the tension screw and per my emmisions data.

My question is, how much of the high idle function is affected by the choke setting.  I think maybe my choke is set to soft and its not enough to engage the high idle properly?

When set correctly the choke should raise the fast idle cam to it's highest position and fully close the choke flap at the same time.....Cliff
