17080243 Quadrajet

I believe this quadrajet 17080243 is used on turbo 6 cylinder 1980 Buicks. Is this an 800 cfm carb and is it a good performance choice for a 455 Pontiac?

 Welcome to CHP!

 Not sure if it is an 800 cfm version. Look down the primaries and see if you can find the "bulge". If so, it is the 800 cfm version. As for being a good choice for your app, we would need more information like cam specs, rear gears, trans, tire size, etc. and then you can order the correct kit/parts from Cliff. :)

Thanks for the reply. My concern is this is a turbo charger draw through quadrajet meaning it uses the PERV for vacuum for the power piston. Can I just cap the ports for that and somehow add a hole in the base plate for manifold vacuum? This unit is NOS and in like new condition which is why I want to try and use it. The car is a GTO 4spd with 3.42 gears, a .030 over 455, 230/236 dur @ .050" lift .590"/.592" lift cam, ported heads, 2.5" x-pipe exhaust with ram air manifolds opened to 2.5". I was going to contact Cliff for parts, I have his book and was going with the stage 2 build.

 I would consult with, Cliff, as he is the most knowledgeable guy out there on these carbs. Sorry. I am just the numbers guy. ;D

That carb will be the larger casting.

You can block the front vacuum supply port to the power piston and drill the baseplate for direct engine vacuum when using those in a N/A application.

Even NOS get one of our kits and replace ALL of the internals to get it up to par for this new fuel.

I've also seen NOS units leak at the bottom plugs right out of the box, so don't skip pressure testing the main casting during the rebuild.

I've also seen them with too much side play at the primary shaft for my liking, and installed bushings in them right out of the box........Cliff
