australian factory manual choke

gday everyone,just checking in,qjets aren't as common here in australia as they are in the usa,they were really only used here from the factory on holden v8s (all 308 cid and later 253 + all 327/350 chevy engined optioned holdens) or found on imported American cars,with that we got less of the wide variations you guys have and also less used ones around as most got tossed in favour of holleys of some description,the speadbore 750 holley was a popular carb.
anyhow id like to show you this,anyone seen these before?its a holden factory manual choke setup on a qjet that was fitted to 308cid torana with the L34 for racing homologation I think?i got this carb for 50 +25 postage from a local site similar to your craigslist,its all complete but filthy,not touched except for the 77 primary jets appear to be over drilled,then filled with solder then redrilled,ive seen a few post posts here about aftermarket manual choke conversions when we had one here all the time,seems to be very rare though?no one I know has seen or even heard of it?what you guys think?

Can't say as I've ever seen a Q-jet factory equipped with a hand choke.  Early carbs had intake mounted chokes, then "hot air" chokes were used, and around 1975 the electric chokes started showing up.....Cliff

two recessed spot welds hold the arm on.
the body number is 7045281 date code 0175.

my hq holden had the divorced choke from the factory,i haven't even ran a choke plate in years and years as I live in queensland,similar to your florida or new orleans?one pedal pump,hold it flat then crank,when it fires just feather a fast idle for a few seconds then good to go.

 I have read some on the Aussie Quadrajets and am intrigued. There were several with the manual chokes. Not just the 7045281. Also, I also read that the "8" in the carburetor number means "Holden". Whether that is true or not, I do not know. It would make sense though. 8)

That part doesn't look factory, I would have thought the factory would have incorporated the attachment point into the lever so it wasn't just held in with a screw.....Cliff

from what I can find on the net it was used on the L34 toranas only,the L34 was a rare beast new and even rarer now.

there doesent appear to be several if any but the L34 manual choke qjets ethan as far as I can find online?263 L34s were built and about 120 are estimated to be still around,the holley was the next dealer option up for racers with a couple other handling mods,at about an extra 1600 you beaut aussie dollars,the L34 was already over 6000,bout 2 grand more than a full house 350 chev powered luxury long wheel base statesman.
