Carburetor Soak

I have read many options for a solution to soak the larger 3 parts of a quadrajet (airhorn, main body, base).  I have not read once that anyone uses gasoline.  What are your thoughts on gasoline as a carburetor soak?  Of course in a secluded safe area in the back yard.

Lacquer thinner works better but has the same fire danger.

Thinner crossed my mind but gas is cheap at the present time in Tennessee at $1.50 a gallon.

How about carburetor cleaner?

I really don't want to spend $100.00 for the 5 gallon bucket.
