Arctic use Quadrajet

Hello all,

I'm rebuilding my first carb and I'm really excited I found this resource and Mr. Ruggles' web site. Most mechanics around here can't stand carbs because they get sticky in the cold winter weather we get in Alaska (-20 average / -60 extreme).

Has anyone run into a good arctic grade lubricant that can be used on the linkages to prevent sticking?

I plan on running a mechanical choke to eliminate one sticking problem, has anyone ever tried adapting a return spring to the fast idle cam?

My hope is that with a good arctic grade lubricant, mechanical choke and return springs, I can reduce the instances of stuck parts in the wintertime.

I'd look at what the Military currently uses for their rifles.  They usually test products and take cold weather operation into consideration.  They used to use Break-Free, but in recent years they may have switched to something else?.....Cliff

I'm in norther MN on the border to Canada, we normally get temps to -20 to -30, sometimes -45. My last daily driver with a carb was a 84 truck, it had an electric choke & it worked flawlessly in those temps. It was the best starting vehicle I've ever owned. Just keep the linkage reasonably clean & I don't think it will be a problem.
