Original carb specs 7045214
« on: March 05, 2016, 08:18:26 PM »
Anyone have original primary jet/rod & hanger/rod specs for a 1975 chevy truck carb 7045214?   I've had this carb since 1980, and might have robbed the original parts out of it.  Has a 77 primary jet, I think will be too rich for the mild 350 we are building.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks mudsport.  Looks like it will be too rich.  Plan is when we get it running is to see what the wide band shows and go from there.

Just to clarify, it used 39B Primary Metering Rods. Not 39 Primary Metering Rods. And it also used the "K" Secondary Hanger as well from the factory. 8)

"b" rods are used  only with APT in the throttle body correct?  And these are different than the rods used in the 170 series carb that had the APT under the air horn.

And I thought I was being sneaky copy and pasting from the rod and jets thread in the Talk and tips section. Lol

That I am not sure about. Does your throttle body have the plug in the front of the throttle body for the APT?

Not being sneaky at all. You are on the right track! Lars just didn't include the suffix after the primary metering rods. Why, I don't know. :)

Yes, it had a plug in the throttle body.  I removed that back in 1980, and "adjusted' it  LOL.

We did get this fired up today.  Ran it @ 2500 to break-in the valve train.  When I closed off the airhorn with my hand it did pick up RPM.  So at least the part throttle is on the lean side.

Still have to get it set to road test.  The idle seemed kinda rough, will play around with initial timing/ vacuum advance.  It does not seem to like manifold vacuum   or 13* in the can is too much.

I looked at the hanger and metering rods,  yea they are not stock...Must have 'adjusted that' too.

Update after checking with wideband 02.
Out of the box, this thing runs great no hesitation or bog.
Idle 11 to1 and able to set to 14/1

Lite throttle  18/20 to 1   The APT is full rich,  it was as high as 22 to 1

Full throttle on the primarys   with the secondary locked out dips into the 9/10 range.

Full throttle with the secondary's 10/11 range.

primary rods are 48b with 77 jets.

Sec rods   DR

PP opens @8 in  and seems to be a good opening point,  02 sensor verify's that it goes fat

stock rods are 39b with 71 jets and those are long gone...

so any advice as what to get this one back on track?

the build is

355 sbc  Stock Vortec heads 9.4 CR  factory manifolds  3.27 gears 27 in tire  T-350 trans
Mild Lunati roller cam
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 272/282
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 206/216
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .447/.447
LSA/ICL: 112/108
Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
RPM Range: Idle-4800
