Whats it from?
« on: April 25, 2016, 07:14:36 PM »
Hi all
I bought what looks to be a good q-jet. Serial #17056202 B6 AAB.
It has an electric choke & side feed.
Can anyone give me some details of this carb? Is it considered the M4M? I'm hoping it's a good candidate for some mods to feed appx 320 hp street/performance car.
Car details are (or soon will be):
1972 Monte Carlo/355 ci/8.8:1 cr/268 adv duration/218@.050/oem 487x iron heads/Headers & 2-1/2" exhaust/200-4R auto/3.73 rear gears.
I expect to do a rebuild following Cliff's book and would like some recommendations for mods or settings adjustments to make it perform.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Scott

 That carb came off 1976's Chevrolet's and Camaro's 350cid, Federal, A/T.

Stock specs of that carb were .077" Primary Jets, 48K Primary Metering Rods, "K" Secondary Hanger and CH Secondary Metering Rods.

Yes, that carb is a M4MC QuadraJet. Also, that carb should have came with the Hot Air Choke. Not the E/C, but the upgrade is a positive one. Cliff would be best to answer, if it would be the right carb for your application. :)

 Take care, bud! 8)

Nice carb and correct, it was originally "hot air" and the e-choke was added.  Make sure the vacuum to the housing is blocked, very few folks remember this step when converting to e-choke and create a vacuum leak that sucks dirty air into the engine as it's no longer a sealed system.

The carb is a great choice for what you are doing, but will need some good parts and minor tuning.  When you get time call the shop, we're here 8am-4pm, M-F EST....tks....Cliff
