Camera under hood?
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:49:25 AM »
I wish i could mount a camera under my hood, with air cleaner
off I could watch the the operation of the carb. under running conditions.
Of course there are dyno's if you have enuf cash to use one.
It seems a great value of knowledge to be able to see how the carb
is performing will under actual load of the cars weight. I can tune
for hours while the carb. idles in park but it will respond different under
load. A cheap camera that had a heat shield would be perfect, could
even record it for viewing later. As of now have to tune then run it on the track/street to test it then tune
if needed, never really knowing how far the secondary air flaps are open
while driving, a pic. is worth a million words. Wishful thinking!

it sounds kinda crazy but you know there might be some merit to the idea. you could take picture of the pulloff(s) and see how fast and/or correctly they are working.  You could see how fast your choke is opening. maybe and this is a big maybe, with a little bit of smoke added, you could actually see how the air is entering the carb top through the air cleaner! If this could be done, it could show how efficient the factory air cleaners were. That would be tough mounting a small camera in the air  cleaner cause you would need a light source of course and it could not interfere with the air. I think it could be done. Mechenics have bore scopes, led lights are small. hmmmmm???  Would make a good youtube video!!
best of all, I dont think anybody has done it,(that I know of).
