E4ME design evolution?
« on: March 01, 2010, 12:08:46 PM »
Hello everybody,

I was just thinking, the first E4ME carb was fitted on a 80 cal. Corvette and standard on all 81 Corvettes. They stayed on engines till 87 (on the Camaro and Monte Carlo if I remember correctly).
My question, besides shown in Cliff's book were there other changes in these years to make the carb better? And then I'm specially interested in the mixture solenoid, the 81 model can do xx changes per minute, has this gone up in the later models to controle the AF ratio better?

Greetings Peter

The M/C solenoids are listed as several different part numbers, but not sure if the ECM cycles any of them at a different rate?

The best thing one can do for those carburetors is to slot the adjustment screws for them with a fine hacksaw blade, and tap the airhorn for screw in plugs to access the adjustment screws.

In use the tuner has a pretty broad range of control over the part throttle A/F ratio by controlling the height of the M/C solenoid and plunger travel.

Those later ECM controlled carburetors are actually excellent units, but they are pretty "ugly" with all the stuff that is added to them.  I can set them up for racing, etc, running them straight off the jets, but prefer to use early models for a "cleaner" look.....Cliff
