Install idle bypass air?
« on: March 03, 2010, 01:51:05 PM »
Hi, since the carb I am rebuilding is a remanufactured unit, it has some weird holes in it, some places. I have gone over most of them, except for the ones that are bigger than stated in recipe 1.

Idle tube: 038
Down Ch: 052
low. idle bleed: 070
upper idle bleed: 093
main air bleeds both: 070
jet/rod: 67/36
mixturescrew holes: appr. 085.

No holes in plates, and no by-pass air.

Should I do something about the upper idle bleed beeing to big, or should I install by-pass air? Or what?

Engine is stock/near stock hi-perf. 327 cui.

What is the carburetor number, and where are the upper idle airbleeds located, main body or airhorn?....Cliff

The body has holes for by-pass air, but they are sealed shut, easy to open again.

The upper idle bleeds are in the body.

I always re-size those upper bleeds or move them to the airhorn at .052".  Using upper idle airbleeds that large depletes the idle fuel delivery and requires large idle tubes.

I've never been able to get good control with the mixture screws trying to use carburetors with upper idle airbleeds that large and any sort of performance camshaft in the engine.....Cliff

Okay, great, I close the hole in the body, and drill a .052" in the airhorn.

I guess you just drill it, so it resembles an original one?
