Need some help dialing in my Qjet
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:28:53 PM »
I rebuilt this 17084292 carb about 4 years ago with one of Cliff's kits. At that time it was on a stock 350 in my 77 Silverado. It performed pretty well.  It has sat on the shelf for 2 years while I built a new engine for the truck and now I'm trying to get it dialed in on this one. Can't seem to get it to run right. Doesn't want to stay running at idle unless I bump the RPMs up to over 1000. Lots of bogging too. I'm going to check the fuel pressure tonight to verify it isn't too high. I may need to pull the carb apart and give it a good cleaning too since I just bolted it back on there.

Any suggestions on jet/rods that I should be using based on this engine?

Engine specs are:

When you rebuilt it with Cliff's kit, a few years ago, did you keep the factory calibration in that carb ?  if so, the new set-up most likely needs more idle fuel than the factory calibration from that carb provides.

As far as I remember it went back to factory specs.

I got Cliff's book last week and am reading through it for the second time. I will be pulling the carb off this weekend and giving it a good cleaning/inspection. I'll see how it goes and start making changes from there.

Can anyone possibly recommend what rods, etc it may need based on the engine info I gave?
