heat insulator gasket

 I have carb number 17058204 that I rebuilt with the help of Cliff and his parts.   It runs great but I do have a hard start problem after it sits 30 minutes or so after driving.    What is a good (wood) base gasket/insulator to use and do you sell one?  If not, Can you recommend one?

I use the Edlebrock 3/4 wood laminate spacer for heat soak and fuel boil but it is not a cure all by any means if you have other issues causing the problem.

 My AC-Delco 40987 mechanical pump has a 1/4" nipple on it that is hooked up to the return line back to the tank.  Thanks for the suggestion though!

Are you having to hold the pedal to the floor to get a start after 30 minutes
Or needing to pump the pedal to get a start?

Checked your fuel pressure after shutdown to see if it's rising in the lines due to heat?

Most parts stores fuel pumps put out too much pressure for a Q jet. They will run OK but after the engine is shut off the pressure goes up even more from expansion and overcomes the needle and seat, flooding the engine. An AC Delco pump will fix it. Went through this myself.

 I ended up building a completely different 17058204 carb I had and now the problem is gone, starts right off every time now.

I have the same carb.

I had a series of cheap fuel pumps with returns back to my tank. I still had hot start problems with these but my main problem was supply under wot. I would run out of fuel.

I put on a 8 psi 80gph pump bit it didn't have a return. This totally helped the wot supply problem but not the hot start, got even worse. I ended up plumbing up my own sort of return T with a fine adjustment valve that could allow excess pressure to bleed off I to the return. This seemed to 85% fix the problems
