4BBL Carb 17059204 Question

Hello Cliff,
I am new to your forum. I have a 1978 Formula Firebird I am restoring. It has a rebuilt 1974 400, that I bought a 4 BBL Carter made Rochester (17059204), (2358 CBD). I'm not completely sure what I have, or what it came off of previously. Can you decipher the part number for me, and tell me if I have a good choice for rebuilding, and whether it is compatible for the motor. The motor is completely stock and will not be made for any racing, just daily driving. I really enjoy this website and thank you for providing it for valuable information. For about 20 good reasons I would get a 1976-1979 Pontiac Q-jet.  It will have the correct linkage, fuel inlet location, choke, vacuum ports, and large front vent tube to locate the air cleaner base.

They are still around and reasonable to purchase, and far superior to the Chevy unit in many ways.

Here is a "stock" unit in action, the only thing that has been done to it is to install one of my kits, custom tuned pull-off, and calibrated/tuned exactly for my engine:

Thanks for your immediate reply to my question. I put the wrong part number that should have been 17059205 instead of 17059204. I want to get a Pontiac unit for my 78 6.6 400. Are these fairly plentiful? I just purchased your excellent book and look forward to rebuilding one with a kit from your shop. Thanks again.

There are plenty of later Pontiac carbs available.  I would get a 1976-1979 model from a 350, 400, or 455 engine.....Cliff
