I bought a Q-Jet core, manufactured by Carter.  The ID number is 44568 9no 70 prefix) and then a GO on the next line.  I thought it would be a 74 California carb but it has a divorced choke as well as the small float hanger in the fuel bowl.  Also the airhorn has the metal strip fuel bowl vent.  Looking at it under magnification doesn't appear to be a restamp.  Any help would be appreciated.

 It could of been converted to divorced choke. Why? I don't know.

Thanks Ethan but I'm still puzzled as to why it would have the short float hanger.  I thought they stopped using those around 1967.  Also, can you tell me if this carburetor would have been visually the same as any other 74 Q-Jet.  Would the differences been only internal?

Also checked an jets, primary rods and secondary rods are the same as a non CA carb.

Possibly a 4456 S.
That would be a 67 Pontiac I believe.

 Being a Carter built Qjet, these 28 year old eyes blew right passed that.

Does anyone have information on what the 4456S was a replacement for?  I know it's a 67 Pontiac but is it for the HO engine with a 4 speed?  Thanks.

 Probably 7037263. Since 4456S was for the 67 GTO HO M/T car.

 My AC Delco manual. Not the large one. Says it was used on '67-'68 Buick 400cid All/Trans, Marine Applications and '69-'72 Pontiac 400cid/428cid All/Trans and references carb number 17054905. I know this info is accurate, because I have used it on many carbs. Not just Rochesters.

Ethan, In restoring this 4456s (7027263) I found that it was supposed to have a 7033893 fast idle cam.  It's one of the early model plastic ones and was missing.  Do you have any idea what the steel replacement part number is?

 Jay, That I don't know. My manual just gives applications. May try calling Carb Junkys and sending them a photo of the original and they may have one for you. They should definitely have the steel one.
