Electronic Quadrajet and E85?
« on: June 14, 2018, 09:01:16 AM »
I have a 1983 Buick Regal with a Turbo 231 V6 that uses an electronic Quadrajet E4ME.

Can this carb be modified to use E85?  (I'm familiar with E85 and realize it needs 30% more fuel)  Shouldn't be a problem for the secondaries, but I'm not sure about the primaries with the MC solenoid.

The parts we sell will hold up fine but not sure exactly how to tune it.  I would imagine you'd need to install much larger main jets so the M/C solenoid could put down enough fuel to make it happy.

Another option would be to run straight off a set of jets and not use it.......Cliff

You mean not use the mixture control solenoid and just go with a straight mechanical carb and no ECM controlled stuff? I do like that idea since I could always go back to the original carb.

Thanks,
Shawn

Yes, they will run fine straight off the jets w/o the M/C solenoid.  Might take a few attempts to figure out the exact jet size.  I can provide a good starting point if you can tell me what size the OEM jets were and the MAB sizes......Cliff

Since I wouldn't know how to tell either of those, is that something that you could check if I would run the carb over to your shop some evening after work? Good reason for a motorcycle ride.

b4black and I are in exactly the same situation so it would be beneficial to both of us.

I work long hours, most evenings and weekends this time of year.  Just have to call and set something up......
