It will not solder well, it's an cast alloy with zinc in it......

Cliff, I ended up using marinetex to do the repair. did at the same time when I installed the secondary well plugs. I used a digital scale to weigh out the marinetex before I mixed it. have not had luck eyeballing it in the past. let it cure for 24 hours and did the soap&water test this afternoon. So far so good, I hope it will last for a while once put back into service.
