Long narrow arm should be turned forward more you may be off on your settings

Mr pontiac are you referring to the tang that sets how far off the choke pull off opens when the engine is running? If anything, it needs to be opened more as it seems rich when cold.

Cliff where do you stake the part the goes into the carb and operates the choke lever? On the outside of the carb where it meets the main casting? This is getting worse as it will pop out going down the road which will cause the carb to inconsistently hesitate briefly as the choke flaps around.

Cliff Ruggles:
The center housing and shaft MUST be part of the bracket, so staking and some Loctite may be needed to keep it in place.  You may find it necessary to "peen" the bracket so it presses in place......
