M4ME fuel pump vent sight tube for marine use
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:45:37 PM »
I am looking for specific information on how to hookup a fuel pump vent sight line tube that runs from the fuel pump to a M4ME carb. I have seen some 4M series where a port is drilled through from the upper left main section of the carb into the front of the left venturi. And then the fuel pump vent tube is hooked up to it.
I like attaching the idea of attaching this  tube to the carb instead of having it run to the flame arrestor.
What this tube does is it is clear and when the fuel pump fails, gas will pump up this tube into the carb instead of filling up the engine or going into the bilge.
So is there a port position or possibility to drill and add one somewhere?

thanks for any help on this idea.

I have a good idea, I think.
These marine carbs dont normally have a bowl vent hookup to a canister, yet the automotive ones do have one. I am thinking of drilling that hole and hooking up the fuel pump vent line. If the fuel pump diaphragm fails and pumps fuel up the sight tube, it will enter the bowl vent and overflow the chamber and flood the motor out similar to like it would with the vent tube entering the flame arrestor. Point is I dont want to drill the flame arrestor and it seems a neater install.

also, some of those arrestors want you to nook the vent line up to the OUTSIDE of the arrestor which I think is a poor idea.
