Rebuild Kit Questions for 17085431 Mopar Qjet
« on: October 01, 2024, 07:43:22 AM »
New to carb rebuilding, and 4 4BBL carbs in general.. all of my stuff usually has a
17085431 carb originally on a '85 or '85 Dodge 1 ton truck with a 360 LA engine.

Originally this carb came on an 85 or 86 One ton truck with a 360.

I am tired of fighting with a Holley carb that came on this 82 Chrysler Imperial.. which has  a 318 and 2.2 rear gears, and a 3 speed lock up 904 transmission. It's a 150-165HP weakingling with single exhaust.. over time I may put better exhaust on it and  may  swap in a 360.. but not for at least a year or so while I collect parts..

Primary usage: road trips, around town, and daily driving in the summer. Interested in  Overall fuel economy, and drivability, and and in reliability urge the change from the square bore fuel mixer.

I was looking at the SR kit, and the HP kit and don't know which to choose. Being able to adjust the height of the primary metering rods, and having a selection of metering rod springs is nice. Also not having to get back into the carb when the engine change happens would be great if possible..

Assuming I don't need a high flow needle and seat, and wondering if new idle tubes, and of what size  would contribute to economy and drivability?

I've decided to go with the HP rebuild kit, and hopefully only have the carb apart once...

Sorry for the late response, was on vacation.

The main difference in the SR and HP rebuild kits are that you get idle tubes, idle mixture screws (slotted drive for the 1979-up units), fastener set, and power piston spring assortment.

For your carb number the HP kit will include the small late style float and .135" high flow N/S assembly.....
