Which quadrajet
« on: August 24, 2025, 06:11:25 PM »
Cliff,
I have a 1980 GMC k3500 it has a 78 Chevy 454 engine in it with the normal standard transmission that goes in trucks that is four wheel drive of course, the engine has been rebuilt it is mostly stock except for maybe an RV cam I have two quadrajet carburetors I would like to rebuild one to put on this truck which car would work better? and then what rebuild kit would work best with what modifications?
Here are the carburetor numbers, 17062222
17056540.
Thank you
Paul

I'm not familiar with either one of those carburetor part numbers.  Are they non-CCC single MAB truck carbs?

Pics?

The first carburetor the 17069222 I think is actually a 17059222, but here are two pictures of that carburetor first, and then the next carburetor 1705-6540 and I've included pictures of it as well that's the second set of pictures.

Whichever carb would better suit my 454 I would also need a rebuild kit and parts to tune it.
Thank you in advance!

I think the first carb is from a Buick. Might be hard to get all the linkage to work for what you are doing.

I've never seen secondary linkage like on that buick carburetor?  Doesn't look like the "normal" variations of linkage.  Anyone know anything about this?

From what I've read it's off in the 455 Buick, I think 1975. The other carburetor is off of a Chevy 350, I'm not sure of the year.

In either case whichever car would work best for my 454 I will need a rebuild kit and necessary parts

Cliff.

I'm still waiting for advice on which carb would be a better carb to build for the GMC 454 truck motor, what specs to tune it up to so I can get it finished. I found the pistons are 60 over and the cam has a 600 lift.

You'll have linkage issues to deal with on the one carb.
The Chevy carb will work, but would need full specs on the cam & CR to give tuning advice.
