Float level vs. fuel level
« on: September 24, 2025, 03:43:47 PM »
Just a quick question about the differences between the float level and the actual fuel level.

When setting a float for say about 15/32",  where exactly does the liquid fuel level end up, somewhere below the float setting, even with it, or above it?

My experience is that it usually ends up slightly below the float level, something like about an 1/8" to a 1/4", and I realize the condition of the float plays a part in this.
But if you have a new float, where should you expect the fuel level to end up? Should it be about equal to the setting level, or below that?

The size and type of float have an impact on fuel level.

Fuel pressure has an impact on fuel level.

Also the size of the fuel inlet seat has an impact on fuel level.

This is why I push using the correct parts in your carburetor, which include the correct factory float and the N/S assembly.  Sadly most folks don't follow that advice so the fuel level in their carburetor is not where it's supposed to be when their "rebuilt" carb is placed in service.

I'll add that the amount of fuel in the bowl has a direct impact of fuel delivery clear across the load/speed range of the engine.......
