1969 GMC 2500 Quadrajet Carburetor
« on: March 15, 2026, 02:52:01 PM »
I recently tracked down my father's first truck, a 1969 GMC 2500 first sold on March 27, 1969 in Knoxville TN.  It was then sold to my grandfather in the 1970s, and he kept it until he passed away in 1991. Later that year, my grandmother gave the truck to my grandfather's little brother, who gave it to his son. He used it until 2001, and then parked it on a family piece of property. There it sat until he died in 2022, and his son (technically my third cousin) sold it to a neighbor of his. I recently bought the truck from him, and it came with a lot of paperwork, including my dad's Protect-O-Plate. One change the recent owner made was replacing the carb. I have the "original" carb and will rebuild it if it truly is the original carb.

The number is correct, 7029207, but the date code has me confused. It's 1687. Normally, I'd say that was the 168th day of 1967, but the truck is a 1969 model. I  don't think they would have used a carb built in 1967 on a 1969 truck, but maybe they would. It seems to have the correct manual choke mechanism, and it seems correct. Also, the truck has only ~86K miles on it, and I know that's correct. I have no reason to believe that the carb was ever replaced, as my grandfather was a master auto mechanic at Ford, and I have no receipt for a change. I have receipts for dozens of other repairs. I'll try to include several photos in a later reply, and would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. Thanks

Never mind. Quadrajet expert Lars Grimsrud advised that the 7029207 was never used on a 1969 truck, just the L46 350/350 Corvette. The one I have is a 1977 service replacement for that carb. What would be original is apparently a 7029223 or 7029224. Sorry for the bother.

I would be tempted to keep the 7029207.  Those have a nice calibration from the factory, and it is likely the service replacement number GM sold for your truck in 1977.
