Paul:
Cliff,
My carb has the DB secondary rods. would it be better to change them to a different rod for my combo? if so, what would you recomend? carb number is 17057266, engine 74 pontiac 455 30 over, with the xe284H cam factory #13 heads 9.5:1 compression TH-400 tranny in a 77 TA. I havnt ran the carb yet still in the rebuild process.

Cliff Ruggles:
Yes, DB's are pretty lean for that set-up.  I would get a set of our DA rods off the website...thanks...Cliff

Paul:
Thanks Cliff. I have to say the more I read your book the more excited I get! I have read it twice now. I have rebuilt over a dozen quads in my time but never to the extent of your book. I was going to send it to you but decided it would be great for me to rebuild  it, as long as the instructions are carefully followed theres no reason why it shouldnt turn out to be a great carb. plus the explanation of how  all the funtions affect the way the engine runs has answered alot of questions I have had over the years. Many thanks! I am going to send you the base plate to be rebuilt though, it needs bushings and I dont want to try that yet.

Cliff Ruggles:
Paul, sounds great, but don't be afraid of the bushing install, the girls do them here in the shop!

The key is to remove the screws without twisting them off in the shafts.

If the staked portion is removed, they come out with no problems.....Cliff

Paul:
The Girls do it? Ha ha, thanks I think  ;D
