The Charcoal caninster certainly isn't going to cost any power or performance. It's used to vent fumes from the carb.
Not sure if it's a vent for the tank or not?
The only problem that can occur with them, is leaking tiny peices back into the carb thru the hose to the vent.
This seldom happens with Q-jets, as they are usually on V-8 engines and the canister is a long distance, and lower than the carb.
Chrysler made some front wheel drive cars back in the mid-1980's that had MAJOR issues with the charcoal canisters putting material in the the carburetors, as the canister was mounted close to, and on the same plane as the carburetor.....Cliff
