Choke Pull Off For SD-455 Carburetors
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:39:51 PM »
What is the best technique to use for removing the choke pull off diaphragm from the bracket on SD carburetors?  I'd like to remove mine without damaging it.  My aim is to replace the stock metal one with a plastic version for easier modification.  Mine fits very snuggly and after trying to gently tap it out I gave up.  Should the the fingers that hold it in place be spread apart somehow?  Thank you....Brian

The plastic pull-off is not a replacment for the metal one.  The arm is too short and not enough travel.  It can be made to work, but will require bending of some parts and comprimise in choke function.

To remove the metal one, carefully spread the arms and clamp the bracket in a soft jawed vise.  With a small hammer and punch drive the old pull-off out of the bracket.  Install the new one, and gently close the arm just enough to retain it with a pair of pliers.....Cliff
