Cliff i need your help please
« on: December 16, 2011, 10:39:02 AM »
Ok I have your book but there are a few things I do not understand, hope you can help. Where is the idle down channel? Picture would be great. I am going to start with the first recipe. So I am going to enlarge that to .046 by hand with the pin vise? correct? The second question is when you notch secondary holes above the air flaps /secondary choke plates do you notch the choke flaps?(Pg 105 and start or 106)  In the picture, I see you did the partial drilling of the port and the notch of the choke plate. Do you do both or just one?

Finally, should I even enlarge the idle tubes and idle down channel? I have a buick v6 with a drawthru turbo setup, larger turbo and a mild cam.
Cam specs 0.006 lift duration 280/290
At 0.050 204/214
Lift as cam .280/.295
Lift at valve .448/.472 timing at .050
intake 5atdc open close 29 abdc
Exhaust 44 bbdc open 10 btdc close
Rpm range 1500-5500

Hi 231altered,
I'm not Cliff  ;D, but I might be able to help you locate the idle down channel.
I suspect you're really interested in finding the idle down channel restriction, which is located very near the top of the down channel.
Go to page 77 in Cliffs book which deals with idle tube removal.
The lower left hand picture shows a punch being used to drive the idle tube down slightly for extraction purposes.
Pointing directly at this punch is a yellow pencil.
The hole ever so slightly down (towards bottom of page) and nearest the tip of the pencil lead is visible.
That's where the down channel restriction lives.
It's a small brass cup shaped restriction about an eigth of an inch below the surface of the main casting.
Hope this helps.

The little V-6 may need some additional idle fuel with a larger cam installed.

What is the carburetor number that you are using on it?.....Cliff
