baseplate questions
« on: December 22, 2011, 09:01:37 AM »
17057263 manual carb here. I obtained this carb from a remanufacturer and have issues with the base plate.
1st off, the jets are very sloppy in the threads, 1/2 turn out and they wiggle quite alot. 2 turns out and they are so sloppy they could pop out?
2nd the baseplate does not have new bushings and both shafts are very sloppy, more so the 4 bbl shaft.
3rd is there a way to tell if this baseplate is correct from the original carb?
4th i have oodles of time right now to get into rebuilding it and would like to buy everything i need in one shot
if i had the part numbers i could order over the net or by phone.
thanks

You are seeing why we recomend to avoid commercially "remanufactured" carburetors.  They get an acid bath which degrades the threads everywhere, not just for the jets.

The throttle body needs primary bushings, it's OK if the secondaries have a bit of side play, as they seal tight on the huge throttle plates.

Best to order what you need by phone, we have everything in stock for that unit, including the correct jets/metering rods, quick release choke pull-off, etc.

the idle screws that came with the carb, are stubby end compared to all others i have from different carbs
the rochester ones fit better
