Marine Quadrajet Bogs When Secondaries Open
« on: July 29, 2016, 08:23:30 AM »
I took my marine carb apart to see why it bogged when I opened the secondaries. First thing I noticed was the secondary well accelerator pickup tubes were missing. I then noticed that the air horn passages are not drilled to allow fuel to come out. Why would these not be present? I've watched rebuilds of other Quadrajet marine carbs and they have the tubes and passages drilled.

 Welcome to CHP!

What carb number are we talking about here?

Several models didn't use secondary POE and they still work fine.

Quite a few other reasons why it would "bog" going onto the secondaries.  What has been done to the carb and what is the carburetor part number?.....Cliff

Thanks for the welcome. I'm new to carburetors but learning what I can about them. My experience troubleshooting and tuning has been on fuel injected motors up until now. Part number is 17080562. This is a rebuilt unit from an online retailer and it bogged right out of the box.  On the primaries it runs great and idles great. The original carb on the motor was for a OMC setup while mine is Mercruiser. It also bogged on the secondaries so I decided to replace it with the rebuilt Mercruiser style.

I see a lot of those here, could be a dozen reasons why it isn't working correctly.  Crappy parts, incorrect settings, wrong parts used during the rebuild, etc.......Cliff
