Few questions about my upcoming rebuild.

Hi folks! I have a few questions about my rebuild. This is a carb i got from a guy in trade for my Edelbrock 1400. He DD the truck it was on but knows nothing about the truck other than his dad gave it to him. Neither of them are "car guys" so they lept at the chance to trade my edelbrock for their quadrajet.

First, Is my choke pull off set up right? THere is no linkage off the forward unit, and it almost seems as if it may be off alignment from the parts below it? Just me? Or does it look off?

Second, I dont remember ever seeing idle mixture screws screwed nearly all the way in, but these ones are screwed so far in that the pertrude into the bore by a good .040". Not normal right?

Thats all for now. In the mean time, im enjoying reading my Cliff Ruggles Quadrajet book!

y5 welcome aboard. if you have a qjet problem it can be solved hear. now to the questions . from what i can see in the picture the choke pull offs look right. test them before you order parts they can be bad . also give us a carb no.it looks like a mid to late 70s carb . some of the idle mixture screws are below the front surface  of the carb. hope this helps.

 Welcome to CHP!

The secondary pull off looks correct. As for the idle mixture screws, can you post a photo of what you are talking about?

Thanks fellas! Naturally i neglected to take a pic of the idle mixture screws... I'll do that tonight. I'll certainly be testing the chock pull offs! Here is a few more pics of the carb. Its supposed to be an 82 truck model from what im told. Im going to convert it to electric choke and stick it on my 78 GMC pickup in place of its old Edelbrock. Heres some pics.

And the truck,

idle screws look right. nice carb, i like to build them they are good castings . the number says its a 1982 built the 200th day of 1984. ps the idle screws should be metric thread .cliff will have all the parts you need with the best quality parts . electric choke is an easy conversion.
