If it sounds like I'm always "selling" on here, I am.
Two reasons for that, it takes money to be in this business full time, that's a no brainer there.
Even more important is that NOTHING you are buying over the counter these days is worth two squirts of duck poop. We really do want folks to have a good end result with their carburetor. To insure this happens, we ALWAYS recommend to use good parts. We've stepped up to make those available.
The "blue" seal and accl pumps showing up in kits are JUNK. I buy the better pumps from the suppliers, then put a much better seal on it that is impervious to ethanol, custom wound springs and a new retainer. Our accl pump is an upgrade for the older carbs, as uses a garter spring under the seal to keep it in constant contact with the pump bore for improved efficiency. Our accl pumps are NOT available anywhere else, so don't bother looking for them at a cheaper price or think you are getting a comparable part in a kit sourced someplace else.
In addition to our accl pump assembly we put a new float in every kit. It is a closed cell nitrphyl material, not open cell like the old OEM floats and it will not get heavy and sink, or leak at the seams like a brass one does just about every time I've tried to use one.
Our kits also include:
New filter/spring.
New secondary cam/spring.
.135" high flow needle/seat assembly with Viton tipped needle.
We even include a new plastic retainer for the power piston, just clip the old one off and slip on the new one. It is slightly oversize so fits tight in the bore, no need to stake it in place, etc.
To get good results with these carburetors is not much different than anything else, you have to use good parts, put everything back in the right place, and make correct settings. For those that have made significant engine modifications you will also have to more times than not make tuning changes for what you have done so the carb is up to par for what you are doing.
I attached a pic to show us removing the seals on the pumps we buy and installing our seal. Ethanol is here to stay, and the additive packages in this new reformulated fuel REQUIRES a good seal on the pump. The ones from the suppliers swells up and fails, even they have dubbed them "ethanol resistant".
We stock just about every gasket every made for a Quadrajet, and stock most choke pull-offs, even some that have long been discontinued and NLA anywhere else.
It is always best to call the shop to place parts orders, as we have a lot of questions to ask so we get the right parts to you the first time........Cliff
