Check-Valve Filters

Anyone use one of those? Any way one could cause flooding? I'm thinking they would not be good for fuel flow on a hi-po engine.

In-the-carb inlet fuel filter with the safety valve???

I use 'em, but only on grannymobiles.  I've never tested one on an engine that makes real horsepower; but on an engine with real horsepower I don't use a filter in the carb inlet.

I don't see how they could cause flooding.  Clearly GM does not believe they cause flooding, or they wouldn't have installed a bazillion of them at the factory.

I didn't know GM installed that type of filter at the factory.

Someone I know had a flooding problem after installing one with a carb rebuild on a stock 396 350 hp Chevy. Didn't happen til after a WOT hit. A theory (long shot) is that the filter was enough of a restriction that the fuel bowl was drained or nearly drained at WOT, then when butterflies closed the float somehow stuck in the down position. After that, trying to start it resulted in gas flowing out the top of carb. Another possibility is a piece of the check valve came loose and lodged between needle and seat.

On second thought, if anything from the check-valve came loose from the filter it should be contained inside the filter.
