Schurkey:
The main issues are throttle lever style, choke style, fuel inlet position, and air cleaner fitment especially with Pontiac carbs.  A lesser issue is having enough vacuum ports; shouldn't be a problem going with a newer carb on an older vehicle.

Well Put
I've got the ram air package on the 71 Olds so in that respect it's similar to a Pontiac. It's a Ch@vy style fuel inlet and looking up the carb numbers it seems to be from a 1985 manual truck

I just wonder if the carb is a suitable replacement for the Olds. Will I have to drill out idle passages, change jetting /hangers etc. It seem to be low mileage where the primary secondary pivots are tight.

Cliff Ruggles:
The later model emission calibrated Chevy carb will need some help to work on the 1971 Olds engine.  It has a lot of differences, side inlet, linkage, vacuum ports, etc.  It would be easier and a better end result to build a 1971-74 Oldsmobile front inlet carburetor instead....Cliff

joepenoso:
Thank You
