twilloug:
Thanks Cliff.

I did buy a copy of your book, great info.  For removing and tapping the plug underneath the base plate, you don't mention a size for these.  (For the smaller front plugs you mentioned 8-32 hardened screw....what size on the main plugs?)

thanks for your help.

Cliff Ruggles:
1/2 fine threads, if the casting has enough integrity.  Some old castings are just too "soft" to tap successfully.  We usually spin out the brass cup plugs and re-install them coated with Marine Tex.  Might have to go up to 10-32 for the front plugs....Cliff

twilloug:
If I need to reuse the brass cups, what is the best way to remove them without damaging? Spin out?? But I can still tap the front plugs with 10-32 right.

Thanks again for your help.

Cliff Ruggles:
They spin out easily with a 25/32" drill bit (pretty sure that's the right size).....Cliff

twilloug:
cliff,
25/32 seems way too big.  25/64 seems right.  is the bit supposed to fit inside the brass cup or just sit on the top ring of it.  thanks for your help.  seems like I have to pick to either drill and tap or just spin these cups out somehow and epoxy.  If I try drilling, how would I know if the casting is soft?

help.
